Durr Hotspring Trek
Eight days through Bumthang's wilderness to one of Bhutan's most remote natural hot springs
Overview
The Durr Hotspring Trek is one of Bhutan's lesser-known long routes — a fourteen-day journey that combines the cultural highlights of the west with an eight-day return trek deep into the high valleys of Bumthang. The route passes through coniferous forest, open alpine pastures and mountain passes strung with prayer flags, with yak herders and their animals for company along the way. The destination is Durr Tshachu — a natural hot spring in a remote valley, where wooden bathing tubs called Waa are set into the ground beside the river. Graded moderate to difficult, with a highest point of 4,806m and a total trekking distance of 104km.
